Is this what her life is coming to?
She dreams of warm summer nights. The ones where she is with the man of her dream, driving endlessly, looking for their next adventure. The music on the stereo is of course another mix CD, a compilation of all their memories. The Bon Iver, Iron & Wine, City and Colour and Brett Dennen songs that have made up the last 6 months of their friendship. You know the memories that include heartache, happiness, loneliness and love. Although so different, yet all the same because they only include She and Him.
As she snaps back into reality and realizes its time to put back on her usual work outfit, a blue collared shirt and dark denim jeans, her hair back in a pony tail. With that she slips on her Vans, grabs her keys and is out the door.
"Shit!" rings from her lips as she is down the street and has forgotten her I-pod. The love of her life these days. Its amazing how the summary of all her emotions fits into this little black device no bigger than a pack of gum.
She settles for a CD from the side compartment in her door. Out of a stack of about 25 she grabs on entitled "Sappy Love Songs For Rainy Days."
"Screw That!" She thinks to herself and throws the CD out the rolled down window. Watching it fly through the air to be smashed to pieces by a passing car as it hits the ground.
As she grabs the next CD, "Spring Mix", clearly a better choice, she shoves it into the CD player.
Although her drive to work is only 15 minutes its the best 15 minutes she gets all day. Time to think about her heart. Her life. Her love. Loneliness has begun to consume her soul these days. Glad that she doesn't have to articulate the way she feels about him to his beautiful face. He would never dare ask her.
She can't really begin to put into words what is about him. The thoughts running through her head seem endless.
'Lover of mine, won't you lay by my side, rest your weary eyes before were outta time'
'The secret that you know, you don't know how to tell, it fucks with your honor and teases your head'
'and i've been waiting all this life, in the company of one, and I know I am young, but I don't want to be alone, if only you could just consider the two of us, and I know darling, I could be so good to you.'
All songs that seem to describe her deepest secret. Her ongoing love for him. She isn't quite sure if its the way her looks at her when the are together, or the feeling that she gets when she is around him. Nevertheless, she knows she has to tell him soon.
But how? When? Where?
She is back in her head again. Day dreaming of the simplicity of taking a long drive, past all the tall wheat fields, to the "look out" spot on top of Craft Hill. The spot where all the city lights shine like diamonds in the dust. Their spot. They would come up here as teenagers, best friends in need or one an other's company and advice. It was here that he first told her she was Beautiful.
She remembers it vividly, the way it rolled of his lips, like water from a faucet. She could see it in his eyes that he meant it. Believing everything that came from his mouth, he had yet to lie to her about things of this importance.
Back to her thoughts of her deepest souls confession, could it be as simple as pulling him from the car, turning on their favorite song, dancing in the moonlight, under the stars, a simple, yet delicate kiss that ends in an..
I Love You.
15 minutes later she arrives at work. Back to reality.
